Has anyone here given consideration the the Adult Stem Cell therapy that is available in a few countries (Israel, Costa Rica, etc.)? I'm seriously considering taking the trip to Tel-Aviv for this treatment and was just curious if anyone had already been through this experience. I have done quite a bit of research, but nothing beats first hand information.
Thanks.

Personal Update: I've decided to try the stem cell therapy and am waiting for an appointment date from the clinic. The procedure itself costs $28,000 USD. Quite a few Americans have already been through this process and it sounds promising......

Hi Sammee,
Through all the extensive research I've done, I don't see any side effects listed. The only downside I'm aware of is that it doesn't work for everyone and therfore could potentially be out $28K.
The one that I read was some what dangerous, is the procedure that uses chemo to kill immune system first and stem cell transplant after. I'm not going to do that one. The procedure for me will be the aspiration (taking bone marrow) in Tel-Aviv and infusion (through spine) in Greece a few months later. Did you come across something different? Canada has a stem cell research team working on this as well, however, it won't be available here or the US for at least few more years.....
Look forward to hearing from you.......(or anyone on this matter)

Another Personal Update:
The date is set. I will be leaving for Israel the first week of December for the bma (bone marrow aspiration). Once this 1st half of the process is complete, I will post my experience in this thread. Hopefully the information I provide will serve others in helping them to make a decision in whether or not this is something they would like to try.
I'm feeling good about my decision to go!

Well, I had the aspiration done in Israel on Dec. 8th and I will be headed to Greece for the infusion part of it, 2nd week of March.
I'm a little nervous about the infusion part of it but am also excited as I keep having relapses that go untreated, causing me more and more symptoms and I'm sure that the cells will "do their thing".
I will post details of the infusion once I've completed that part. As for the aspiration, it was a breeze! Edited by youbetcha - 18 Feb 2010 at 11:07am |

There is a company called Stem Cell Theraputics http://www.stemcellthera.com/ that have a way, Yes have a way to trigger your own neural stem cells in your brain using 2 already approved drugs. They are in the middle of some very effective stroke trials right now and will be starting M.S. trials soon. These are the guy's who pointed out prolactin rebuilds the myelin sheath in pregnant and lactating women. Edited by Troy - 07 May 2010 at 12:15pm |

At what point does anecdotal evidence become overwhelming?

Hi
The work by Stem Cell Therapeutics Corp sounds promising. I know Dr. Hill who was involved in the stroke trial. We should see how the stroke trial results. If the outcome is promising, then the application of their technology to MS would be promising as well. Apparently there are more than 200 companies world wide who offer stem cell therapy. A lot of them are bogus. One has to be very careful who you are dealing with. I feel that stem cell therapy maybe the effective one for progressive form of MS since their problem appears to be neuronal cell death rather than just inflammation and loss of myelin sheath.

Hi All~
I am new and have had ms for 32 years.Been on a study, had Leukopherisis, etc. I noticed this post for stem cell and wanted to pass on what is very simple has greatly changed my life for the better. I am still walking with a walker, long distance a wheel chair. A year ago had a relapse while on Rebiff that left only my lt hand working.I barely came back from this attack this time. The disability stayed. I could no longer sit up or sit in a chair.I decided to go on chemo after steroid infusion for a week. It worked but not enough. I chucked the rebiff as it made me sick and longer worked. As I couldn't stay on chemo forever I went back to what I did my first years, adding cod liver oil which helped immensely. I then went onto taking high doses of fish oil 3 times a day at the urging of my BF. I started low at first two pills twice a day. There was some improvement but nothing spectacular. I upped the dose and it was like getting replugged into the electrical grid. It was overwhelming the feeling of imput that was getting to my appendages. I got stronger fast. My right hand has been non functional for 7 years. I now can lift heavy pails, laundry hampers, use the remote, hold a fork. It is really been miraculous.I can even pour a 1/2 gallon of milk with my right hand.I have over 100 new abilities. My life has totally been revitalized. Since I am not keen on hospitals nor can afford the transplant this was a godsend to me.My husband is still in shock. The dose I take is 2400mgs 3 times a day.My husband gets the big bottle at Costco. If you are taking blood thinners work with your Dr.as fish oil thins the blood.I am also taking Vitamin D as well as tumeric, b50, calcium & magnesium, and I am following a non gluten diet. I am back to walking , lifting weights, stationary bike, vacuuming, sweeping etc, continue my work as a jewelry designer. Life is good! |
